I too have always been a Delia fan but didnt watch this one because I was very put off by the idea of so much ready made and tinned etc ingredients. Like you I like to know the provenance of what I am eating. She might have caught the zeitgeist but I wont be buying this time. Loved your blog though!Elizabeth Musgravehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09473705107636868753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-38697365429395049772008-03-13T15:45:00.000+00:002008-03-13T15:45:00.000+00:00I have just wandered into your blog and judging by...I have just wandered into your blog and judging by the other comments this is a brillant post today. I didn't see Delia however I had heard it trailled on R4 so got some idea of where she was with her new ideas. I really don't enjoy frozen ready meals and much prefer home prepared. We were given a bread maker - fantastic- so last night was homemade cream mushrom soup witb yummy h'mde seeded bread with cheese and salami & fruit. Mmmm!? See you again.Clairehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15316288912447066892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-35768634992381238562008-03-13T00:23:00.000+00:002008-03-13T00:23:00.000+00:00A brilliant blog PM, and as Pipany has said, I do ...A brilliant blog PM, and as Pipany has said, I do think you should take up writing for Food Magazines, have you ever thought about this?

I remember watching all of D. Smith's programme's moons ago when my children were younger, bought the books too. Could not cook an egg when first married, thought that seriously glossy Cook Books might help me turn a dish into something worth eating.

I did not see the programme, but packet cheese, packet spuds, tins of mince, surely not.! Hate to think too what colourings and preservatives are stacked in these foods.

My HL is a glutton for food, will eat nothing unless it homecooked fresh, fresh meat, fresh veg. The enjoyment of cooking will cease if programmes like these are to be aired surely. Thank you for the cook tips by the way PM.CAMILLAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04741990891794651299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-32846517052051030832008-03-12T22:30:00.000+00:002008-03-12T22:30:00.000+00:00Yes that was brilliant writing PM. I didn't see her latest programme so can't really comment but what I've heard about it so far does not endear me to her new style. I feel she may be jumping on an idea to fill her coffers once more. The thought of tinned mince and instant cheese sauce mixes repulse me, I think the art of cooking will be lost if this sort of thing is encouraged.Cait O'Connorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04569760764766505179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-45454968286832130392008-03-12T19:55:00.000+00:002008-03-12T19:55:00.000+00:00Ooh, much prefer your approach to mashed potato an...Ooh, much prefer your approach to mashed potato and, although I didn't actually see the programme, I cringe inwardly at the thought of tinned mince. An excellent read.

Am planning to peruse your Cooking blog when I have more time - love the idea of it & lap up new recipe ideas whenever possible.LITTLE BROWN DOGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09752176955139690523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-39749407573034598802008-03-12T16:37:00.000+00:002008-03-12T16:37:00.000+00:00Yes think you should be writing for the mags with ...Yes think you should be writing for the mags with this Blog - and as Milla said a measured approach.

We like you prefer to cook our own food and freeze - but I confess to buying bottled sauces - cos they are easy, quick and good.

Perhaps she is just recognising that this is the way things are going. I find it sad though as there doesn't seem to be the same amount of caring for your family when you open a tin as there does cooking from fresh.Westerwitch/Headmistresshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08956764463959607416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-86216215359020528902008-03-12T15:55:00.000+00:002008-03-12T15:55:00.000+00:00Very interesting. And bread for that matter. Certainly potato bread, which used to come in limp cakes, two for a halfpenny at the bakers. (See I am that old!). But I agree with Pipany. This is a splendid review - you should send it off somewhere. It might pay for (some of) the oil at least!. Good luck with the GALMI.Fenniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02377814681496294457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-75218370746752611352008-03-12T12:59:00.000+00:002008-03-12T12:59:00.000+00:00It was a measured approach rather than the outrage...It was a measured approach rather than the outraged slash and burn which a knee jerk reaction to her programme could have promoted. I still think that we have moved on to the point that tinned mince just does repel. And frozen mashed potatoes (like, in my book, frozen yorkshire puds) is just a lazy step too far. I enjoy cooking (apart from thinking what to have) and was quite intrigued by what her "cheats" were going to be, assuming they would tune with the Delia of old (glass of wine unlikelily frozen etc) and not this total out of character stuff. Good blog Mags.Millahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15967731998504496807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430645964860056096.post-60267056470603590992008-03-12T11:00:00.000+00:002008-03-12T11:00:00.000+00:00Golly I think that was brilliant PM - you should b...Golly I think that was brilliant PM - you should be writing for the mags! I am a Delia fan too and, like you, vary things as I want. I think it depends if you enjoy cooking which I do and so do you judging by the blogs. Some people truly hate it and as you say, it is better that they do this surely than buy the microwave pie. Great piece you wrote there xxPipanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04048984447721169350noreply@blogger.com
